When you log into Canvas on January 4, 2016, it will look a little different than what you are used to. Canvas will be updating its user interface so that it is a good experience no matter what device or screen size you use. We’ve found that most students and instructors like the new design and find it easier to quickly get into their courses and find what they need!
Watch the video below for a tour of the new interface or scroll down below the video for a description of the new features!
You can always contact the Instructional Design team with any questions!
What’s New in the New Interface?
The global navigation menu, where you access your courses, inbox, and profile settings, is now located on the vertical bar on the left side of the screen.
Favorited courses appear as colored cards on the dashboard. Visit How do I customize my Course list? to learn how to add courses to your favorites. If you like the old dashboard, you can access that using the on/off button at the top right of the page.
Shortcut links to commonly used areas like Announcements, Assignments, Discussions, and Files are located underneath the course cards.
The Logout link is now located under your Account menu.
The ability to see grades across all courses has been moved out of the global navigation menu and is accessible from the View Grades button on the right sidebar of the dashboard.
When on small screens, the course menu collapses out of the way. You can access the collapsed menu by clicking on the three vertical lines (they look like a stack of pancakes).
You can learn more about the new UI in the Canvas Guide on How do I use the Dashboard?.
