Building Courses in Canvas

Join the ID Team in this hands-on workshop that will help you build a course using Canvas. In this session, you will

  • explore the Canvas interface
  • set your notification preferences
  • add content to a course
  • build assignments that help you assess students.

You will have plenty of time to ask questions and explore additional tools.

Using Canvas’s Grading Tools for Face-To-Face Classes

Canvas makes it easy to share grades and feedback with students throughout the semester so that their final grades do not come as a surprise. This modern, student-centered LMS also includes a lot of features that can keep students on track with their assignments and exams.

In this hands-on session, you will learn how to use Canvas’s assignment and grading tools in your face-to-face classes. We will add assignment information to Canvas, organize the grading information that students can see, and practice entering grades. We will also explore assignments and grades from the students’ perspective.

 

Using Canvas’s Grading Tools for Online and Hybrid Classes Workshop (online session)

In this online session, we will demonstrate the best practices for building online assessments and activities in Canvas so that students understand what is required. We will also review the most efficient ways to grade students’ work. Finally, we will explore assignment submission and grades from the students’ perspective.

 

Building Awe-Inspiring Homepages in Canvas

Welcome students into your Canvas course in style! With Canvas, you can make customized course welcome pages to provide students with what they need to get started and to direct them to important areas within the course. In this session, you will learn the skills you need to build a course welcome page including adding images, linking to documents and course areas, layout and formatting, video and other features.

 

Multiple Uses for Multimedia in Canvas Workshop

Canvas has a built-in tool for recording audio and video. In this session, we will explore some of the many ways that this tool can be used to engage students. You will get a chance to practice making your own audio and video recordings. We will also review how to embed YouTube videos and other multimedia within your Canvas course.

 

Migrating Course Content from Blackboard to Canvas Workshop

Blackboard will no longer be available after the Fall 2014 semester. Course content that you hope to use for Spring or future semesters should be imported into Canvas.

In this hands-on session, we will explore the various options for migrating content from Blackboard into Canvas and work with you to identify the solutions that will work best for your courses.
