GoToTraining/Meeting Changes

Recently, we’ve noticed a few changes to the GoToTraining and GoToMeeting after Citrix upgraded their software. If you or your students currently use either of these tools, please take note that you may experience difficulties hosting sessions from a Mac, viewing and sharing recordings, or setting up new accounts. To avoid these complications, please follow the recommendations below.

Hosting Meetings from a Mac

Due to a recent upgrade from Citrix for its GoToTraining and GoToMeeting software, Mac users are no longer able to host meetings and trainings if they are running OS X 10.6.8 or an older version of the Mac operating system. However, Mac users on older OS X versions should still be able to join and view sessions through a browser via the web app. If you try to host a session and receive the error below, then you will need to upgrade to a newer version of Apple’s OS X software before you can host online synchronous sessions in GoToTraining and GoToMeeting.


First check to see which version of OS X your Mac is running by clicking the Apple icon at the top left of your screen, and selecting “About This Mac.” If you are running OS X 10.6 or lower, then you should upgrade to OS X Yosemite (10.10). Most Macs currently running OS X 10.6.8 or higher will be able to upgrade to 10.10 for free. Once you have upgraded OS X, your should run a test session of GoToTraining or GoToMeeting to make sure your Citrix software is up to date and everything works correctly. Upgrading your computer’s operating system may take some time, so make sure to do it well in advance of the next time you plan on running an online synchronous session with your students.

Viewing and Sharing Recordings

If you are used to recording your GoToTraining or GoToMeeting sessions, please double check your recording preferences to make sure they haven’t changes with the recent upgrade. Your recording settings should be set to “Remind me to convert recordings after each recorded session.” If this reminder is turned off, your video recordings will download as .g2m files, which cannot be viewed on a Mac or uploaded to YouTube. However, .g2m files can be opened and viewed in Windows Media player and can be converted at a later time using the GoToMeeting software.

To avoid any confusion, it is best to do the conversions immediately after your recorded session has ended. To check this setting on a PC, open the software, right-click on the Citrix icon in your system tray in the bottom right hand corner, and then select “Preferences.”


In the next window, click “Recording” on the left and make sure it is set to remind you to convert recordings after each recorded session.


On a Mac, open up the Citrix software and then select “Preferences” from the GoToMeeting or GoToTraining menu in the top left hand corner of the screen. In the next window, click “Recordings” on the left and make sure it is set to remind you to convert recordings after each recorded session.


Activating New Accounts

All La Salle students should have active accounts with Citrix. If you attempt to use an old email from last summer to activate your account, you will find that the “create account” link in that email has expired. Instead, you can go directly to the GoToMeeting or GoToTraining log in page. If you don’t know what your password is, click on the forgot password link and enter your La Salle email. Citrix will then send you an email that you can use to reset your password.
